Amy Friend

Amy Friend, founder of Centaur Physiotherapy, is a Human Physiotherapist, graduating from Notre Dame University, in West Australia. Amy started her journey with horses at Nerang Pony Club on the Gold Coast; since then she has worked throughout the Pilbara and Burnett regions. In 2019, she returned from the UK where she had been working as a Human Physiotherapist in forensic, disability and neurological arenas and attained the role of Community Specialist in Neurological Physiotherapy, whilst studying at The College of Animal Physiotherapy in Buckinghamshire. In the late 90s, Amy spent time at The National Irish Stud in Kildare Ireland and Tubingen Germany exploring horsemanship. Sadly, Amy parted with her own pure breed Irish mare ‘Bodessea,’ to return home to Australia to provide the vision of Centaur, ‘Treatment for horses and their human’ after 25 years away from the Coast. Amy is currently representing Queensland as Committee chair within the APG (Animal Physiotherapist Group).

I have always been around animals and as a child I often helped take care of cattle, sheep, chickens, goats, horse, game etc. I studied Zoology and Physiology at Uni in SA. After graduating I worked as a receptionist at a local Vets. This inspired me to look in to animal rehab. My husband and I moved to Mauritius where we worked at PAWS, an international animal welfare organization. During this time I completed my Diploma in animal physiotherapy. In 2015 we moved back to SA and bought our own vet practice. I absolutely love animals. We are constantly working with animal rescue, adoption and welfare organizations and have also rescued quite a few animals ourselves - dogs, cats, birds, horses, goats, snakes and a few other exotic ones! I have spent every day of my life with animals, and I intend to dedicate my future to the safety and welfare of animals coming into our care.
