"How to work well with the referring vet" Online CPD with Hannah Capon MA Vet MB MRCVS

  • Acknowledge that there are difficulties within the current system
  • Reinforce the appreciation of the MDT (Multi-disciplinary teams)
  • Review the legislation surrounding vet referrals
  • Look at what the whole practice and referring team to can do and highlight areas that may influence working relations

The MDT comprises of various disciplines/specialties such as behaviourists, vet,
physiotherapists, rehab practitioner, vet nurse, dog trainer, myotherapist with the ideal
being in house which equates to the nurse, receptionist and the vet and all having some
important responsibilities. Therapists and specialists as well as owners and their support
network also play a huge role in working with the referring vet.

There should be a specific MDT flow from diagnosis to management but often in real life
this does not happen, and Hannah will go through the real life issues and how these can be
managed. She will then cover the current legal situation and regulation with regards to treatment being
performed by other professionals.

The importance of communication is spoken about, and how vet, client, and patient relationships should be maintained. Tips from professions are given to help substantiate communication and professionalism.
