The power of Pulsed Electro Magnetic Field Therapy (PEMF) and lymphatic drainage!
My old cob, suffers from chronic arthritis and tendonitis and when he suffers an acute flare up of either, the poor chap looks in a very bad way! His joints swell and the resulting fluid makes it hard for him to move which in turn makes the condition more painful as the fluid then restricts movement further and presses on nerves, increasing the pain and making him even more reluctant to move. Muscle function deteriorates and muscular soreness adds to his problems. Bute helps a little but the most impressive results have recently been gained from a combination of PEMF applied to the affected joints and tendons at a setting of base 50Hz, pulse 17.5Hz and lymphatic drainage of the distal limb. After one application the swelling around the affected joints and tendons has decreased by over half and this morning he appears to much happier in himself..Repeated applications over the next few days will hopefully increase his comfort levels and should further reduce the inflammation and pain.
PEMF works by influencing cell behavior inducing electrical changes around and within the cell. Improved blood supply increases oxygen pressure, helping to activate and regenerate cells. It also improves calcium transport which increases the absorption of calcium in bones and improves the quality of cartilage in joints. So, providing, PEMF is used correctly it works on a chemical and cellular level, promotes circulation, reduces pain and aids healing
